Linda Rogers

Linda Rogers is a writer descended from writers, some of whom came to North America and beyond, to the Orient, looking for the ideal community. She sees herself as part of a continuum, both in her own family and in an extended family of writers and artists. Her poetry, fiction and non-fiction for adults and children is always about recognizing the epiphanous moments in which we find redemption. By recording those times when the serendipitous phenomenal world connects with our silent history, she rehearses the miracles.

Her own miracle is a life of passionate enthusiasm filled with music and celebration. Rogers, who is married to mandolinist Rick van Krugel, has three sons and two grandchildren. Named Victoria's Arts Citizen of the Year in 1998, she is an advocate for children's rights, particularly concerning literacy.

Rogers has been awarded the Leacock, Livesay, Acorn-Ruckeyser, Hawthorne and People's Poetry prizes in Canada and the United States, the Bridport, Cardiff and Kenney awards in the United Kingdom, the Prix Anglais in France and the Voices Israel Award for her poetry.
