Marilyn Bowering

Marilyn Bowering was born in Winnipeg, Manitoba, and raised and educated in Victoria, British Columbia. She graduated from the University of Victoria with an MA in English Literature. Her first book of poetry was published in 1973. Since then she has published a number of award winning books of poetry including Autobiography which received the 1997 Pat Lowther Prize for Poetry and was nominated for the Governor General's Award. Her first novel, To All Appearances A Lady was published in Canada, the US and Britain. Visible Worlds her latest novel, received the 1998 Ethel Wilson Prize for fiction and was nominated for the 1999 Orange Prize. It has also been published in the US, the UK, Finland, Germany, and Greece. Her most recent books of poems are Human Bodies: New and Collected Poems 1987-1999, and The Alchemy of Happiness. Forthcoming is a novel, Cat's Pilgrimage in January of 2004. Marilyn Bowering also writes for radio, film and stage.

Marilyn Bowering has travelled extensively and has lived in Greece, Scotland, the Queen Charlotte Islands and Spain. She now makes her home with her family in Sooke, British Columbia.
